Upcoming runners: 24 and 26 March 2017

Friday 24 March 2017

Race 3: Class 3 - 1200m

Horse no: 2
Time: 7.20 PM
Jockey: V DURIC (56.5kg)

Fastnet Rock (AUS) x Defiant Dame (AUS) 4yo gelding. He's in good form at the moment and worked strongly on Tuesday; Vlad (Duric) was very pleased with his work. We jump from barrier 5 on Friday - although there are a few horses in the race that like to go forward, our horse has good early gate speed and should jump well. His fitness levels are good and the blinkers go back on, which should sharpen him up a bit. He looks a pretty solid chance for Friday.

Race 5: Class 4 - 1200m

Horse no: 1
Time: 8.20 PM
Jockey: G BOSS (58.5kg)

Jeremy (USA) x Indus Ridge (IRE) 5yo gelding. James is happy with condition going into the second start of his preparation. He did his main gallop last Saturday, and some easy work during the week to keep him ticking over. Glen Boss said he felt "terrific". He's drawn a nice barrier in barrier 2. Looking at the race on paper there seems to be a couple of horses that will go forward, however being on the long course we don't want to get as far back as last time. Barrier 2 will get us into a good position and he should relax with the Norton bit on. If he can reproduce his last start's performance with a strong finish, the step up to 1200 will suit him,.

Race 7: Open Benchmark 83 - 1400m

Horse no: 7
Time: 9.20 PM
Jockey: R SHAFIQ (54kg)

Fastnet Rock (AUS) x Earthen Cool (AUS) 5yo gelding. He's come through last week's barrier trial well. James is happy with condition and he worked nicely during the week. On paper the race should suit him - there doesn't look to be any other strong leaders in the race. Hopefully Shafiq is nice and positive out of the gate and gets him into a forward position where they can dictate from the front. It's a decent race on paper with nice horses who have been racing well recently, but White Hunter is in good form and did a nice trial last week. James reckons if we manage to get to the front and dictate, he should run a strong race.

Sunday 26 March 2017

Race 3: Novice - 1200m
Horse no: 5
Time: 1.55 PM
Jockey: O PLACAIS (55.5kg)

Rip Van Winkle (IRE) x Scarlet Runner (NZ) 3yo gelding. He's come through last week's barrier trial well and is good condition; Olivier (Placais) is happy with the way hes moving. He's drawn another tricky barrier in barrier 11 of 11 horses. The race on paper looks to have good speed, with quite a few horses going forward. With that being the case, James would prefer him to be ridden more patiently from barrier 11 to teach him to get to a position in the rear and switch off to prevent him from over-racing. Olivier can ride his race from there; get him into clear galloping room on home straight and hopefully finish off strongly.

Race 7: Singapore Three-Year-Old Sprint Group 3 -
Horse no: 3
Time: 3.55 PM
Jockey: V DURIC (57kg)

Battle Paint (USA) x Daystar (NZ) 3yo gelding. James is really happy with him going into thefirst leg of the 3-year-old Series. Vlad (Duric) has been pleased with the way he's been working. He's drawn a tricky barrier in 9 which makes things a bit awkward. The race looks to have really good speed in it and from barrier 9, James would like Vlad to try to ride him a bit more patiently than he's been ridden, get him into a midfield position with some cover and ride from there. James thinks he's a better horse when he's chasing. If they go really hard upfront, the race might suit a horse coming from a bit off the pace.

Race 9: Rocket Man Sprint Group 3 - 1200m

Horse no: 6
Time: 5.00 PM
Jockey: O PLACIAS (52kg)

Per Incanto (USA) x Sound Lover (NZ) 4yo gelding. He looks great and has been working nicely on the training track. His fitness levels are good and he's really nice and bright around the stable. We get a light weight of 52kg and a nice barrier in 6 for Sunday's race. There looks to be good speed in the race with afew horses who like to run forward. We won't hold Olivier down with too many instructions, let him travel where he's happy travelling. Some of Magnum's best races have been where he's chasing so James won't be too concerned if he's further back. If he gets clear galloping room up the home straight he'll hopefully hit the line strongly.

Race 11: Class 4 - 1600m

Horse no: 7
Time: 6.05 PM
Jockey: N JUGLALL (56kg)

Mastercraftsman (IRE) x All Night Party (NZ) 5yo gelding. He's in good condition, he looks well and has been working nicely. The race on Sunday is a similar race to the one he won his previous start. He's drawn a nice barrier in barrier 2 and from that gate James would like Nooresh (Juglall) to ride a bit more prominently and be somewhere in the first 5 or 6 runners, and then try get into some clear galloping room in the home straight. James thinks the 1600m will suit him, and hopefully he'll be competitive again.
