Sunday 19 February
DEADLINE DAY: Race 4, 1st
Obviously we're really pleased with his first-up win - it was a really good, solid effort. He also managed to pull a front shoe off which makes it even more impressive! He showed more gate speed than we expected; he jumped out, put himself right into the race and travelled well throughout. At the top of the straight he looked like the winner; once Olivier switched him back to the inside and encouraged him he attacked the line well. James always knew he'd see out the 1200m well. There's quite a bit of improvement to come - he's still very green - but he's looking like a horse with a pretty big future here based on that run. He's pulled up fine and James would like to give him a week or so of quiet time after his run before resuming work - we're looking at a nice Novice race in 5 or 6 weeks.
TASSAJARA: Race 10, 2nd
It was a bit disappointing to be in front for so long and get caught right on the line! Overall, James is pleased with the run - maybe the jockey overdid the front-running tactics a bit and went a fraction too hard. However it was a good job nonetheless and we're expecting a win from Tassajara pretty soon. He's a bit scratchy as he usually is after a run but is otherwise fine. We're looking at a Kranji D race for him over 1100m in a couple of weeks.
